Driver Faces Manslaughter Charges after Fatal Crash

Claudio DePina, 29, of Brockton is facing manslaughter charges for his role in a fatal crash that left one passenger dead and another seriously injured as he was reportedly driving over the city speed limit down Plain Street.

DePina was indicted on numerous charges including vehicular manslaughter, operating under the influence (OUI/DUI) of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, operating a motor vehicle recklessly, operating a motor vehicle after his license to operate has been suspended or revoked, assault and battery of a police officer, and resisting arrest.

One of the passengers in the vehicle with DePina, Delia Moeda, 28, was killed instantly in the crash when he struck a stone wall, causing the car to flip. Another passenger in the vehicle, Tony Barros, 30, also of Brockton, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a Boston area hospital.

DePina suffered only minor injuries in the accident.
