NHL player Voynov charged for mauling spouse in California

Hockey professional Slava Voynov, who plays for the Los Angeles Kings, was charged for abusing his wife in their California house, an article by ESPN LA stated on December 15.

A judge and lead prosecutor in Los Angeles County reportedly stated that the domestic violence evidence against the 24-year-old hockey player was sufficient for the case to proceed. In an initial court hearing in Torrance, a police officer testified, describing how Voynov assaulted Marta Varlamova. Voynov ,who was arrested after the incident in October, was also suspended by the National Hockey League. A lawyer for Voynov said that his client is innocent of the charge. Varlamova also decided not to charge her husband. A court arraignment is scheduled for Voynov on December 29.
