Police ask parents for support to curb underage drinking problem

In an effort to curb drinking among minors, the Dennis Police Department plans to put more enforcement efforts into effect, starting with checking the areas in which underage alcohol drinking happens most often.

In the coming months, more police plan to patrol and monitor areas where minors are believed to drink more. Additionally, liquor stores will be regularly checked for illegal purchases by underage consumers.

Police Chief Michael Whalen is encouraging parents to become more diligent about their teenage children drinking, as this is the time when they tend to get into alcohol-related trouble due to prom and graduation parties.

Whalen added that parents need to be aware that social host laws can cause those who allow minors to drink alcohol in their homes to face serious criminal consequences.
