WEST YARMOUTH – A 20-year-old West Barnstable woman was charged with drunken driving after being involved in an accident that began when a man jumped in front of oncoming vehicle.
Tara L. Tobin, of 2239 Iyanough Road, was driving westbound on Route 28 when she crashed into the rear of Dodge Dakota pick-up truck that stopped suddenly.
Yarmouth police said the driver of the Dodge stopped in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid hitting a 47-year-old Centerville man who purposely jumped in front of the vehicle. Police said the man had emotional problems. He was taken by Yarmouth rescue to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of injuries that are serious but not life threatening, police said.
Police did not charge the driver of the truck, but they charged Tobin with operating under the influence of alcohol and a minor traffic violation. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court.
Police said Tobin told them prior to the accident she had six or seven beers at a house in Dennis.
Yarmouth Police Detective Stephen Renzi and members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit assisted in the investigation.
