Cape man charged with stealing copper pipes

A Dennisport man was arraigned Friday in Orleans District Court for allegedly stealing copper pipes from 15 area homes, Dennis police said Tuesday.

Evan Franklin, 21, of 11 Union Park, pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of larceny of more than $250, six counts of larceny from a building and seven counts of breaking and entering in the daytime to commit a felony.

Fifteen homes in the Old Wharf Road area had copper piping stolen from either outside showers or from their basements, Dennis police said. Police said they first received word of the thefts Nov. 4.

Police said Franklin was selling the copper to scrap metal dealers in the Hyannis and Middleboro areas.

Franklin is scheduled to return to Orleans District Court Jan. 14 for a pretrial hearing, according to police.
