South African handicapped athlete Oscar Pistorius recently was cleared of murder charge in the domestic violence shooting of his fiancée Reeva Steenkamp, the Los Angeles Times reported on September 11.
Instead of handing a guilty verdict of premeditated murder, Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to rule that Pistorius was guilty of negligent homicide. Judge Masipa stated that Oscar, 27, acted unreasonably on February 14, 2013, when he fired his pistol through the bathroom door inside his Pretoria house, killing Reeva, 29. Oscar stated in his defense that he mistook Reeva for a trespasser when he fired his gun. Though a lesser verdict may be handed down against Pistorius, prosecutors may still appeal on the case.
