On Thursday, November 14, Federal District Court Judge sentenced Boston’s infamous gangster James “Whitey” Bulger to two life sentences and an additional five years of imprisonment. The 84-year-old fugitive, who was wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, was expressionless as Judge Denise Casper clarified the sentence.
Whitey Bulger was convicted last August of multiple crimes, including 11 counts of murder and numerous money and drug related charges. Aside from the life imprisonment sentence, Bulger was also ordered to pay at least $19.5 million worth of damages to the families of his victims and $25.2 million in penalties to the government.
A legal representative of Bulger said they will be appealing the conviction, adding that Bulger’s defense as an informant was not considered by Judge Casper.
