WEST YARMOUTH â€“ Police have arrested a Shrewsbury man who allegedly fled after he crashed a car into an unoccupied home on Winslow Gray Road early New Yearâ€™s Day.
The man â€“ Matthew J. Pungitore, 24, of 23 Williamsburg Court, Shrewsbury â€“ was called to the Yarmouth Police Station for an interview Monday night and subsequently arrested on various motor vehicle charges related to the crash, Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos said.
Pungitore crashed a 1999 Honda Accord with five passengers in it into the living room at 312 Winslow Gray Road at the corner of Winslow Gray and Buck Island Road, according to police.
The carâ€™s passengers were all standing outside of the car when police arrived, according to a Yarmouth police press release about Pungitoreâ€™s arrest. Three of the passengers were treated and released at Cape Cod Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Robin Lord said.
Information collected at the accident indicated another person had fled before police and fire officials arrived, according to the press release.
Pungitore is charged with operating a motor vehicle to endanger, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident after causing personal injury and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear issued by Barnstable District Court.
Pungitore was scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court this morning.
